AAD backs football club’s action over racist poster

AAD condemns the poster with the words “Achtung Juden” (German for Attention Jews) by the Millwall Berserkers hooligan group – found near Millwall Football Club’s stadium – which features the cockerel from Tottenham Hotspur’s logo with its head detached from its body and lying in blood.

It applauds Millwall FC for removing the poster and confirming that it has a zero-tolerance policy against discrimination of any kind and that, following a full and comprehensive investigation in conjunction with the British Transport Police, any individual or group identified will be banned from the club for life. AAD also applauds Millwall Football Club Supporters Club condemning the poster.

AAD condemns other logos and posters bearing a striking resemblance to Nazi symbols on the Millwall Berserkers Instagram page. Sadly, this shows that we appear to have reached a new level of anti-Semitic hate, which must be addressed and the perpetrators identified.

On another note, AAD applauds the Premier League initiative, “No Room For Racism, anywhere”, to which all this weekend’s Premier League matches will be dedicated. Let us hope that this initiative will also include action against anti-Semitism which remains rife in football and society in general, and which is so often ignored by the relevant football authorities, the clubs and the police.

Finally, AAD notes with regret an incident which occurred at the NFL game between Miami Dolphins and Jacksonville Jaguars at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday night (October 17) when racially-abusive and intimidatory comments (including the word “Yiddo”) were directed towards a North London Rabbi and his son who were at the game. The matter is being investigated.
