A patriotic week at Indian High Commission in London

Wednesday 23rd August 2023 07:55 EDT

On Monday, August 14th the Indian High Commission in London marked Partition Horrors Remembrance Day. A solemn day to remember that our independence was not easily won. A day to remember the plight and pain of millions who suffered the calamitous event, and to remind us of the story of the largest displacement of the human population and forced migration in the last century.

On Tuesday, August 15th the High Commission held a grand celebration of India's 77th Independence Day at India House. High Commissioner Vikram Doraiswami greeted hundreds of diaspora members and shared President Droupadi Murmu's Address to the Nation. He felicitated the Cricket Association for the Blind in India (CABI) and greeted each member of the cricket team, who are currently on a UK tour. Other special guests included the NCC cadets who are also visiting as part of the India UK Youth Exchange Programme. A surprise attraction was the team of motorcyclists from MotoGP Bharat led by HC Doraiswami himself. This was a curtain raiser to the first-ever MotoGP event being held in Uttar Pradesh next month.

On Monday 21st August, High Commission organised a special screening of the period action drama Gadar 2 at Vue Cinema, Leicester Square.

An event will be held on Saturday, August 26th in the form of a huge community celebration with cultural programs, food stalls and performances at the Navnat Centre in Hayes, supported by the High Commission and Indian organisations in the UK.
