2023 Tamil Heritage Month and Thai Pongal in Harrow

Tamil heritage month events and Thai Pongal celebrations will take place in Harrow this January 2023, organised by various Tamil community organisations alongside Harrow community venues. The events include: 

Tamil Heritage Month Art exhibition, Harrow Arts Centre, from 5th January to 5th Feb 2023. To mark Tamil Heritage Month 2023, Harrow Arts Centre will be hosting an exhibition that aims to creatively explore the rich heritage of the Tamil community. Tamil Heritage Month is celebrated in January to coincide with Thai Pongal, the Tamil Harvest Festival. This exhibition includes artwork from members of the Tamil community who have created pieces that express their heritage and culture answering the question, ‘What does Tamil Heritage Month mean to you?’

13th Annual Thai Pongal Celebration in Harrow, Harrow Arts Centre on Saturday 14th January 2023. The annual Harrow Thai Pongal celebrations will take place at the Harrow Arts Centre featuring fine arts and cultural performances from 6pm till 8.30pm. A complimentary takeaway Pongal Feast box by Ruby’s Catering is available to all attendees. Please contact the organisers to reserve your place.

Spotlight on Harrow Tamil School Association at Headstone Manor & Museum from 19th January – 30th April 2023. This small photograph based exhibition spotlights on the Harrow Tamil School Association and their role in the wider Tamil community in Harrow. This exhibition forms part of Harrow’s wider celebration of Tamil Heritage Month 2023.

Artist Exhibition: Tamil Heritage in Harrow at Headstone Manor & Museum from 19th January – 30th April 2023. This exhibition has been curated with Sarubini Kananathan, a sketch artist from the Tamil Community in Harrow. Sarubini has been commissioned for Tamil Heritage Month to sketch what it means to be Tamil in Harrow.

Vanakkam: Celebrating Tamil Heritage in Harrow at Headstone Manor & Museum, 19th January – 30th April 2023. To mark Tamil Heritage Month 2023, we have co-curated an exhibition and project with Harrow Tamil School Assocation. This small exhibition highlights the rich diverse history of the Tamil community in Harrow through objects and personal stories. This exhibition forms part of Harrow’s wider celebration of Tamil Heritage Month 2023.

Film screening at Harrow Arts Centre, Vivesini from Friday 20 January, 7pm. Three individuals from Chennai, London and New York are connected through an encounter with a ‘spirit’ from the enlightenment era. Shakthi, the protagonist, treks into a forbidden forest and witnesses a series of inexplicable events that seem to haunt both the forest and her mind. Her quest for an explanation accidentally triggers a social awakening.
