Nairobi: The High Commission of India in Nairobi hosted a vibrant ceremony to mark India’s 77th Republic Day, attended by senior Kenyan officials, diplomats, business leaders, and the Indian diaspora.

The National Day Reception at India House was graced by HE Dr Musalia Mudavadi, Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs of Kenya.

The event highlighted the historic, multi-faceted partnership between India and Kenya, built on shared values and mutual respect. Guests included Cabinet and Principal Secretaries, ambassadors, UN heads, business leaders, media, and diaspora members. The evening featured cultural performances and a curated Indian culinary experience celebrating India’s rich heritage.

HE Adarsh Swaika, India’s High Commissioner to Kenya, welcomed guests at the 77th Republic Day celebrations, calling the 1950 Constitution a milestone and praising Kenya’s shared democratic values. He thanked President Ruto and highlighted India’s progress under PM Modi’s Viksit Bharat vision, including its status as the world’s largest democracy, fourth-largest economy, leader in digital innovation, infrastructure, startups, and medicine, supplying over half of Kenya’s pharmaceutical imports.

Swaika also noted historic India-Kenya ties through trade, the Kenya-Uganda railway, and anti-colonial movements, honouring freedom fighters like Makhan Singh. High-level visits and $3.5 billion in trade, over 200 Indian businesses, development programs, scholarships, and the Indian diaspora, recognised as Kenya’s 44th tribe, have strengthened relations.

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi praised India’s global role, its support for Africa, and the upcoming AI Impact Summit, while noting Kenya’s gratitude for India’s aid in diplomacy, education, healthcare, and international reforms.
