Tamil Nadu teen wins Brown scholarship

At 17, Pranav Ilango from Erode, Tamil Nadu, is set to begin a new chapter at Brown University in Rhode Island, US, after securing admission with a full scholarship worth Rs 3.55 crore, covering tuition and living expenses for four years.

He will study Public Health and Applied Mathematics, combining mathematics, technology and data to address complex real-world challenges. Pranav also received a 100% scholarship offer from The University of Hong Kong.

Beyond academic success, his journey reflects years of learning, mentorship and preparation. His long-term ambition is to use technology, mathematics and public health to solve problems affecting underserved communities. From Erode to Brown, his story highlights how ambition can begin anywhere and create meaningful impact.

Pranav Ilango, a senior student at CS Academy, Erode, began preparing for his global academic journey at 13, when he joined Dexterity Global’s National Scholar Development Programme. The mentorship helped him strengthen his academic, leadership and problem-solving skills.

Pranav was recognised among the Outstanding Cambridge Learners and earned a World Topper distinction in IGCSE Mathematics. With interests in software, engineering and data science, he aims to use technology to improve lives.

He hopes to build a public-health venture using data-driven insights to support governments and underserved communities. His choice of Public Health and Applied Mathematics at Brown reflects this ambition to tackle real-world health challenges.
