New York: The newly confirmed Democratic nominee for New York City mayor, Zohran Mamdani, is facing escalating and blistering attacks from President Donald Trump, but has firmly declared he will not be silenced. The escalating feud saw Trump launch a tirade against Mamdani at an immigration roundtable in Florida.

During his remarks, Trump labelled Mamdani “a lunatic," "a pure, true communist," and "a total nut job." The President further escalated his rhetoric by floating the extreme idea of arresting Mamdani, stripping his citizenship, and deporting him, stating, "We don’t need a communist in this country... We’ll have to arrest him." Trump also revived a familiar tactic, questioning the legality of Mamdani’s citizenship and suggesting the government would "look over everything."

Mamdani, who emigrated to the US from Uganda as a child in 1998, responded with a resolute statement. "The President of the United States just threatened to have me arrested, stripped of my citizenship, put in a detention camp and deported, not because I have broken any law, but because I will refuse to let ICE terrorise our city," Mamdani asserted. "I will not accept this intimidation." He further added a stark warning, framing Trump’s statements as a broader threat: "His statements are not just an attack on me, but a warning to every New Yorker who refuses to hide in the shadows: if you speak up, they will come for you." Trump’s incendiary remarks came just hours after Mamdani officially secured the Democratic nomination, setting the stage for a highly contentious political battle in the lead-up to the mayoral election.
