A Muslim woman from Indonesian province of Aceh was publicly caned recently for standing too close to her boyfriend.
Twenty-year-old Marlina bin Abdul Rahman was beaten in front of a crowd in Banda Aceh for the offence of khalwat. Unmarried men and women are barred from being alone together under Sharia law.
Aceh is seen as Indonesia's most devout province, with religious police growing even more active.
