Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a strong pitch against terrorism and launched a frontal attack on Pakistan’s sponsorship of terrorism in India and across the world. Modi, in the presence of US President said that Donald Trump is strongly supporting India in the battle against terrorism and asked the audience give standing ovation to the President.

In an apparent reference to Pakistan, Modi said that the people who cannot even manage their own country are harbouring terrorism and supporting terrorism. “The entire world knows about this,” he added. Although Modi did not mention Pakistan by name, Modi ridiculed at Islamabad’s protests about India’s move to better integrate Jammu & Kashmir into the Indian union, referring to Pakistan as a supporter of terrorism. “Whether it is terrorist attacks on 9/11(in New York) or 26/11 (in Mumbai), where were the planners of the attacks?” Modi asked, with Trump and the entire US congressional delegation seated in the front row at the Houston stadium.

Addressing the gathering, President Trump vowed to protect innocent civilians from the threat of radical Islamic terrorism and said border security is vital to both America and India as he emphasised on bolstering further the Indo-US security relationship. “We are committed to protect innocent civilians from the threat of radical Islamic terrorism,” he said. “India and the US also understand that to keep our community safe, we must protect our borders. Border security is vital to the United States. Border Security is vital to India. And we understand that,” Trump said as Modi was seen clapping.

“Energy of NRG (stadium) is a witness of synergy between India and the US…My answer to ‘Howdy, Modi’ is only this: Everything is Fine in India,” Modi said and repeated this in various Indian languages. At the conclusion of the event the two leaders walked hand in hand greeting the rapturous crowd in what could well have been a joint US-India political and electoral rally.
