Joe Biden’s India connection

It is not just Kamala Harris who has roots in India. Joe Biden too has his own Indian connection. Biden made claims of having an Indian connection for the first time in 2013. A few years later he explained that he descended from George Biden, his “great, great, great, great, great, grandfather” who was apparently a Captain in the East India Company. He allegedly settled in India post retirement and married an Indian lady. However, there are reports online that no records of George Biden exist in India but there were two Bidens in the East India Company armed merchant ships after-all. A website claims that it wasn’t George, but his brother Chritopher Biden who is most likely to be Joe’s ancestor (if at all it’s true) in India. According to a report published in Gateway House, “In 1858 Christopher Biden died in Madras and is commemorated by a plaque in the Cathedral there. Apart from the memorial tablet in the Cathedral there is also a portrait of Biden by George Chinnery seated with his dog, Hector. His wife Harriott lived on in London until 1880. Some of her papers are kept at Cambridge University and testify to her husband’s kindness and their mutual love. Nowhere is there mention of an Indian wife but Christopher seems the most likely candidate if Joe Biden indeed had an ancestor in India.”
