Dr Tina Shah, a prominent Indian American physician, formally entered politics seeking the Democratic nomination for New Jersey’s 7th Congressional District.

In a remarkable show of momentum, the triple board-certified doctor surpassed $1 million in fundraising within a year of launching her campaign. Motivated by the systemic failures she witnessed in the medical field, Shah is centring her platform on healthcare affordability, reproductive rights, and the rising cost of living. She has explicitly criticised the current administration’s approach, arguing that dismantling existing healthcare structures endangers patient safety.

Shah brings extensive policy experience to her candidacy, having served in senior roles across three White House administrations. As the former National Director of Clinician Wellbeing at the Department of Veterans Affairs and a senior adviser to the US Surgeon General, she led federal strategies to combat medical burnout. More recently, she transitioned to the private sector as a chief clinical officer for an artificial intelligence firm.
