Cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan has called off plans to bring Islamabad to a standstill after Pakistan’s highest court agreed to his petition to launch a probe into corruption allegations against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

The leader of the Tehreek-e-Insaf party, Imran Khan had demanded that the PM resign or agree to a full probe into allegations surrounding Sharif's family's offshore wealth, uncovered in the Panama papers.

Khan had vowed to “lock down” Islamabad on Wednesday as part of his campaign against Sharif after the Panama Papersscandal.

Khan said Sharif must come clear on how his children became owners or trustees of offshore companies that own expensive London property.

With hundreds of Khan’s supporters moving towards the capital on Tuesday, the Supreme Court intervened, saying the Tehreek-e-Insaf party and the ruling Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) had until Thursday to agree terms of reference for the judge-led investigation or the court would decide them.

Sharif and his children deny any wrongdoing.
