Indian Islamic preacher Dr Zakir Naik who is currently wanted for alleged terrorist links and offences, has been granted citizenship by Saudi Arabia. Sources reported King Salman intervened to grant Naik a citizenship to help protect him from the International Police Organisation, Interpol. Indian courts had issued a second arrest warrant for the preacher in connection with his alleged role in a terror-related case and money laundering allegations.

On a tour at the time, Naik chose to not return to the country, staying back in Malaysia where permanent residency status was granted to him five years ago. The 51 year old preacher had left India last year to allegedly evade arrest after some perpetrators of the Dhaka terror attack claimed they were inspired by him.

Indian authorities reported enforcement officials were now moving to revoke his passport and request Interpol issue an arrest warrant for him. Naik, who has moved to Saudi would be forced to return to India if his passport is revoked.
