Bank of England to appoint new governor in 2019

In June 2019, Mark Carney will be stepping down from his role as the Bank of England Governor,leaving many contenders waiting in the wings to take over from this reputable role. 

There are many speculations about who will be taking the reins at Threadneedle Street, and there have been names springing up as being the next possible governor. One such name includes that of Raghuram Rajan.

Raghuram Rajan is the Katherine Dusak Miller Distinguished Service Professor of Finance at Chicago Booth. He was the 23rd Governor of the Reserve Bank of India between September 2013 and September 2016. He was also the Chief Economist and Director of Research at the International Monetary Fund between 2003 and 2006. 

He co-authored Saving Capitalism from the Capitalistswith Luigi Zingales in 2003. He then wrote Fault Lines: How Hidden Fractures Still Threaten the World Economy, for which he was awarded the Financial Times-Goldman Sachs prize for best business book in 2010.

Rajanhas been the recipient of several awards, such as Infosys prize for the Economic Sciences in 2012, Euromoney Central Banker Governor of the Year 2014, and Banker Magazine (FT Group) Central bank Governor of the Year 2016. 

His other interests include Indian politics, history, tennis and squash.
