Despite hitting the worst punctuality rates in ten years, rail rickets across Britain are to rise in the coming year, going up by 3.4% on 2nd January, the Rail Delivery Group has announced. The cost of many season tickets are increasing by more than £100. This will be the largest fare rise since 2013.

It is said that in 2016,12%, or one in nine trains had failed to meet the rail industry's punctuality target. This is the worst performance since the period of 2006-2007 when 11.9% of trains were said to be running late, while between the period of March 2015- March 2016, 10.9% of trains, or one in ten, had failed to arrive on time.

The passenger watchdog, Transport Focus referred to the prospective rise in rail fare as “a chill wind” as the rail fare keeps increasing while passengers' income does not seem to be going upwards.

The chief executive of Transport Focus, Anthony Smith said, “While substantial, welcome investment in new trains and improved track and signals is continuing, passengers are still seeing the basic promises made by the rail industry broken on too many days.”

It seems like many passengers' expenditures from their wages goes into their rail tickets as it seems to be going up by extortionate rates.
