Getting lost in translation and leaving your “nonsense” behind can certainly be bewildering. A notice in Hindi on a sign post in Dorset have left many Bollywood fans chuckling at the failed translation attempt.
A sign on Durdle Door, Dorset asks people not to leave their rubbish behind in languages including Polish and Spanish. However, there has been a mistranslation of the word 'rubbish' in the Hindi message. The Hindi translation reads: “Samundar tat par bakwaas mat chodo”. It seems like this “nonsense” is due to an online translation mode.
Puneet Sharma had taken a photograph of the sign. He stated, "During a visit to the beach I saw this board and noticed the Hindi script - it was quite hilarious."
Durdle Door has become extremely popular with Bollywood fans as a place to visit in the UK after the film Housefull 3 was shot there.
The famous limestone arch, owned by the Lulworth Estate in Dorset have apologised for this error in translation. Spokeswoman Caroline Sharpe expressed, “It is embarrassing but you have to see the funny side. I can only apologise if anyone has taken offence. The signs are currently being corrected.”
She goes on to add, “It was an honest mistake and hopefully it can shine a light on the issues we experience all-season-long litter. If you saw how much is actually dropped you would be amazed. It's shocking.”
Looks like in order to keep the environment clean, one must ensure not to leave rubbish behind, as well as remember to take their nonsense along with them.
