A group of local Rotarians from the UK including District Governor Manoj Joshi from Bradford and Assistant District Governor Rabi Martins from Watford travelled to Amritsar to support the National Immunisation Day activities. Rotary International has been leading the campaign to eradicate Polio since 1985 when there were thousands of Polio cases across the world. Today the number of these cases have been reduced to under 20 across three countries. Speaking after the trip Rabi Martins said,

“Of all the voluntary activities that the Rotary initiates and supports this has to be the most valuable. To know that when you give a child just two Polio Vaccine drops you are giving that child freedom from the threat of developing Polio is both humbling and a source of unimaginable personal satisfaction.”

Sunday January 19th, marked the first day of National Immunisation round of Pulse Polio and around 2.2 million children under the age of 5 years old were administered with polio drops. This campaign is expected to reach over 3 million children suffering from the disease.
