The grieving relatives of 260 crash victims strongly demanded transparency and a dedicated memorial from Indian aviation authorities in Ahmedabad, marking one year since the nation’s worst air disaster.

The catastrophic event occurred on June 12, 2025, when a London-bound Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner lost power and crashed into the BJ Medical College campus moments after takeoff, killing all 242 passengers and crew alongside 19 citizens on the ground.

Bereaved families, including that of tech worker Harpreet Hora, formally accused the carrier of a deliberate cover-up as the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau prepares to publish an interim report instead of a final verdict.

Preliminary data from July 2025 indicated that the aircraft's fuel switches were mysteriously deactivated mid-air simultaneously.

The affected households, who have received 12.5 million rupees in interim compensation, are currently petitioning the government to preserve the crash site. However, the Gujarat health minister, Praful Pansheriya, confirmed that the state instead plans to demolish and rebuild the damaged hostel structures.
