The Kannada short film First Salary has become a viral sensation since its digital debut on November 30, 2025, amassing over 2.3 lakh views on YouTube.
Directed by Pavan Venkatesh, the film tells the poignant story of Harish, an engineering graduate portrayed by Vijay Shivakumar, who navigates the grueling job market in Bengaluru. Produced by the venerable PR and production firm Raghavendra Chitravani, the 24-minute drama explores the intersection of professional ambition and personal tragedy. The narrative follows Harish as he finally secures his dream job, only to be confronted by a severe health crisis that threatens his future and his relationship with his mother, played by Harini Shreekanth.
Director Pavan Venkatesh, who also wrote the screenplay, created the film to highlight the contemporary stresses of unemployment and lifestyle-related health issues, such as heart attacks, which increasingly affect young professionals. The project continues a family legacy at Raghavendra Chitravani, an institution served by Pavan’s grandfather, D.V. Sudheendra, for 50 years, and later by his father, Sudheendra Venkatesh.
By focusing on a relatable, family-oriented struggle, Pavan sought to maintain the high standards set by the firm’s previous iconic productions like Ganeshana Maduve and Olavina Udugore.
The film has received significant critical acclaim within the industry, earning praise from veteran Kannada actor Shruthi and prominent producer Rockline Venkatesh. Despite the challenges of condensing a complex emotional arc into a short runtime, the production team successfully balanced a moving musical score with a script that resonated deeply with social media audiences.
Published reports on December 23 confirm that First Salary is being hailed as a standout example of the current surge in promising short-form storytelling within the Kannada film industry.
