On December 9, the House of Lords held a pre-event for UN World Meditation Day 2025, bringing together an array of attendees including Parliament members, peers, diplomats, legal and medical professionals, disability rights advocates, senior officials from the Police and British Army, as well as leaders from the arts, media, and civil society. The event was hosted by Lord Krish Raval OBE and organised by the Brahma Kumaris in collaboration with the Sanskruti Centre of Cultural Excellence, with Sister Jayanti, the Additional Administrative Head of the Brahma Kumaris, also in attendance.
The event examined how meditation is increasingly used to support both personal well-being and harmonious societies. Under the theme “Inner Peace; Global Harmony,” speakers discussed how emotional stability and daily meditation can positively influence individuals.
Presentations focused on the rising importance of meditation across policy-making, healthcare, education, and workplace environments. Evidence shared highlighted the advantages of regular meditation, such as lowering stress, boosting emotional control, sharpening concentration, and fostering empathy - qualities seen as essential for strong leadership and good governance.
Sister Jayanti spoke about how inner clarity helps people cope with global uncertainty, while Lord Raval emphasised the significance of contemplative practices in public institutions and community initiatives. The event also included a short, guided meditation session, giving attendees a hands-on appreciation of its benefits.
As the UK faces widespread mental health issues affecting people of all ages, this event highlighted how meditation can serve as an affordable, accessible, and non-clinical method to support national approaches to resilience and well-being.
The gathering acted as a thoughtful introduction to UN World Meditation Day, which is celebrated around the world each year on 21 December.
Everyone was welcome to attend the London event at Global Co-operation House on Sunday, 21st December from 4:00pm to 5:30pm.

Talking about the crises the world is facing, he said:
"You don't counter darkness with more darkness; you do it with light... We need you [the Brahma Kumaris] more than ever now."
- Lord Raval OBE

Referred to meditation as “an idea whose time has come...The fact that the UN has declared this a day for meditation means that it's no longer on the periphery. It's part of the establishment. In all walks of life meditation has now reached every single field of human endeavour - and that's because we have seen the results of meditation.”
She spoke about experiments in school to test the resilience of metal wire. “To reduce the stress, I either have to take the weight off or make the wire stronger. I can't reduce the stressor, but I can increase my own capacity to deal with all these things.”
- Sister Jayanti

Over the years I've learned that meditation isn't just a practice - it's a lifeline... It allows me to step back from the chaos and regain focus... It helps clear the mental clutter and refocus my attention. It's my way of managing burn-out and maintaining empathy.
