There is never a dull day when Trump is around. He is the new standard in what we Brits would call the marmite test. The only problem with the Trump test is that too many people take their hatred, or their love, for Trump to a level where there is no logic, no common sense and no rationality. Trump has the ability to push every button that can trigger madness and physical breakdown, or it takes you to a high that most high strength drugs can’t match.
I am mindful that to write any article where the story is Trump means it could be out of date by the time I press the send button. So let me traverse the universe according to Trump and see if the answer is indeed 42, or has it changed.
The one thing we must all accept is that Trump did not lie on the campaign trail like Keir Starmer and his bunch of muppets. Trump told us he was going to play with tariffs, that he would deregulate and cut down on the mountains of bureaucratic madness that has been built up over the past five decades or more, that he would cut taxes, that he will make the government more efficient via DOGE, that he would will force NATO members to do some of the heavy lifting, that America will no longer be the universal aid giver, that he will push back on the gender madness, that he would free American schools from political ideology of woke, and much much more.
Trump is delivering on exactly what he promised and this has produced a collective meltdown on the left because it seems they are not used to a President actually doing what he has promised. I mean, how dare he delivers on his promises. The media on the left have also gone mad. They are not used to being sidelined and put in their place. Trump has found a gem to front his press briefings in Karoline Leavitt. This lady is only 27 years old. If you have not seen her in action, I urge you to take the time and do so. This is one lady who does not take any prisoners. Any woke journalist who attempts to misrepresent the government or the President, and she puts them in their place with utter bluntness.
Trumponomics is quite simple, and this is why many economists, financial gurus and stock market analysts can’t cope. His aim is to uproot the traditional norms and create chaos and anarchy in the financial sector. You see sometimes you need a misdirection on the global stage to get what you really want. The traditional method would have been to convene hundreds of meetings with global partners over several decades to discuss how they can make changes. Instead, he has decided to nuke the whole playing field and force everyone to grapple with the thorns of historic economic lunacy. We are at an early stage in this process but those who can see the wood for the trees might be able to ascertain this new global chessboard.
On tariffs all he said was that the US will start charging all those nations who have been doing it to them for decades. And the whole world order collapsed. Panic in the stock market, media pundits with their armageddon predictions, politicians scampering for cover, but some nations realised that it’s better to talk and get an amicable solution with Trump, than go the Chinese route and attack.
The volatility created by Trump is all part of the game. In the end he will get what he wants with all nations paying more tariff making much needed money for America. If China does not get it and they continue challenging Trump, this will be a case of which one can take the most pain. Many people think China will win; I am not sure about that. There are some fundamental problems that China faces at home and any trade war that results in a dramatic reduction in exports will destabilise its strict dictatorial control over its citizens.
Is this America's Liz Truss moment? I don’t think so. America controls many more levers of economic power than the UK. America also gives the President enormous power that he can wield without always having to go back to the Senate. Did you know that he has already signed more than 120 executive orders!
The headline asks the question if Trumponomics can produce a global reset? The answer is yes. In fact, it has already started. NATO members are now having to rush their investment into defence, something they turned a blind eye to for decades. Nations will have to pay tariffs to America and this has already started. America will no longer waste billions giving aid to corrupt terrorist and extremist nations around the world. The Middle East is now moving more towards America and pushing against the Islamists. Ukraine will have to accept a new border with Russia or risk losing even more. Russia is too big to bow down, but even Putin knows it’s time to find some common ground. China has become everyone’s enemy number one. Those nations who indulge China will lose more than they gain. And what about India? Well, under PM Modi India it will have to accommodate some of the changes Trump wants, but against that the gains it will make are massive. India needs to exert its independence and somehow keep America, Russia, Israel and the Middle East on its side. Who said life was going to be easy.
Trump has only been in charge since January 2025 and in these few months the world has changed. He has another 3 years to go, so those who can position their approach and responses correctly have everything to gain.
