After a long wait, the English Football League (EFL) has officially approved the acquisition of Morecambe Football Club by Panjab Warriors, a group spearheaded by visionary Kuljeet Singh Momi. This ground-breaking move establishes Morecambe FC as the first UK football club to be owned by a Sikh, marking a truly historic moment in British football.

Panjab Warriors has been a crucial financial supporter of Morecambe FC since mid-2024. The finalisation of the deal, anticipated in the coming days, is set to usher in a new era for the League Two side. Momi, a respected businessman and philanthropist, successfully navigated all regulatory checks, following a previously unsuccessful bid by Sarb Johal of Sarb Capital.

Gurpreet Singh, Head of Communications for Panjab Warriors, emphasised that this acquisition is "more than a business venture; it's a commitment to the fans, the town, and the future of Morecambe FC". The new ownership's vision is deeply rooted in sustainability, inclusivity, and long-term growth. They have pledged significant investment in the club's future, encompassing youth development, infrastructure, and crucial fan engagement initiatives. Momi's overarching goal is to cultivate long-term success while honoring Morecambe’s rich heritage and community roots. He passionately stated, “This is about pride, purpose and progress, not just for the club, but for the community”.

The Shrimps Trust, representing Morecambe FC supporters, has warmly welcomed this significant development. They expressed particular encouragement regarding Panjab Warriors' stated commitment to engaging with supporters, a factor they believe is absolutely essential for the beloved club's long-term success. This landmark moment is being celebrated across the football world as a major stride forward for South Asian representation in sport.

This historic takeover not only ushers in a new era for Morecambe FC but stands as a powerful testament to the breaking of long-standing barriers, promising a more inclusive and diverse future for British football itself.
