In a remarkable feat of endurance and dedication, Vidushi Deeksha V from Udupi has set a new world record for the longest Bharatanatyam dance performance. She claimed to have performed the classical dance continuously for an astounding 216 hours, from 21st to 30th August. While a provisional certificate has been issued, the Golden Book of World Records will now verify all technical aspects before formally certifying the record.

Manish Vishnoi, the Asia head of the Golden Book of World Records, confirmed that while there was "no doubt she performed for 216 hours," a thorough check of all technical aspects, including breaks, would be conducted before the final certificate is issued. Speaking at the valedictory function, he praised Deeksha's determination, calling her an inspiration for hailing from an ordinary family with an extraordinary dream.

He recalled that a previous record was set just last month with a 170-hour performance, and he was surprised when Deeksha expressed her intention to surpass it by a significant margin. Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, who was in Udupi, visited the venue and felicitated Deeksha. He also reminisced about his own experience learning Bharatanatyam in school, acknowledging the immense hard work the art form demands. And emotionally, Deeksha thanked all her supporters, sharing that the first three days of the marathon were the most challenging. The dancer, a native of Arooru in Brahmavar, is a student at Dr TMA Pai College of Education. Her journey from a small town to national recognition has been marked by her passion for Bharatanatyam, which she began learning at an early age
