A UK-based Gujarati filmmaker's film Vrukshree (Divine Tree), has garnered significant acclaim, securing an official nomination at India's prestigious Dada Saheb Phalke International Film Festival Awards (2024) in the Top 5 Short Film category. Producer, writer Saurin B Shah (resident of London) and international award winning director Rahul Vania were honourable invited to a lavish star studded ceremony on February 20 at the Taj Bandra in Mumbai, attended by popular Bollywood and TV personalities Anil Kapoor, Shah Rukh Khan, Bobby Deol, Kareena Kapoor, Shahid Kapoor, Rani Mukerji, Vikrant Massey and many others.
Moreover, Vrukshree has emerged as an award winner in the best environment category at other international film festivals this year including Jakarta Independent Film Festival, Singapore International Short Film Festival, Sentinel International Film Awards and Santadev International Film Festival.
This short film made in Gandhinagar, capital of Gujarat is an inspiring story about conservation of trees and the importance of nature in human life. The story revolves around a solitary grandma's campaign against the indiscriminate destruction of trees and greenery on the pretext of indiscriminate development and to alert people about the dire consequences of global warming. This serious topic has been presented in a comic and dramatic way as an attempt to convey the message that if you can't plant more trees, at least not be instrumental in cutting them down.
