Following a virtual meeting of INDIA bloc leaders, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge has been appointed as the chairperson of the bloc. Additionally, sources indicate that Bihar CM Nitish Kumar, a JD(U) leader, declined the role of convenor for the INDIA bloc, suggesting that someone from the Congress party assume the responsibility.

The INDIA bloc, short for 'Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance,' consists of opposition parties, with the leaders convening to discuss various coalition issues, including participation in the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, seat-sharing agreements, and other pertinent concerns.

While Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee chose not to participate in the meeting, Sharad Pawar, the leader of the NCP, joined the INDIA bloc leaders' meeting from Mumbai over video conference. Kanimozhi Karunanidhi, the leader of the DMK, and MK Stalin, the chief minister of Tamil Nadu, attended from Chennai. The leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party and the Congress met earlier to discuss seat-sharing. The leaders of both parties called the meeting at Mukul Wasnik's home a "positive move".

In order to stop the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) from obtaining a third consecutive term at the Centre in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, INDIA bloc parties have COME together.
