Pankaj Udhas, India's ghazal icon, has passed away at the age of 72, his family has confirmed. He was not keeping well for a long time. The news has come as a shock to many. Singer Sonu Nigam was among the first ones to react to his death.
Taking to his Instagram account, Sonu wrote, “One of the most important part of my childhood is lost today. Shri Pankaj Udhas ji, I will miss you forever. My heart cries knowing that you are no more. Thank you for being there. Om Shanti.”
Born on May 17, 1951, in Jetpur, Gujarat, Pankaj Udhas began his career with the release of his ghazal album titled "Aahat" in 1980. Rapidly, he became a prominent figure in the realm of ghazal music in India. His contribution to Bollywood included the rendition of the unforgettable track "Chitthi Aayee Hai" for Sanjay Dutt's film "Naam," evoking profound emotions and touching the hearts of many.
Over the years, Pankaj released numerous albums and performed at numerous live concerts, further elevating his popularity. In recognition of his contributions, Pankaj Udhas was bestowed with India's fourth highest civilian award, the Padma Shri.
