The renowned music maestro, Ustad Rashid Khan, who was undergoing treatment for prostate cancer at a hospital in Kolkata, passed away. At 55 years old, the artist was on a ventilator and receiving oxygen support. Despite efforts, he succumbed to his illness at around 3:45 PM, as confirmed by an official from the private hospital where Khan was admitted.
Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal, expressed her grief over Rashid Khan's demise, stating, "This is a great loss for the entire country and the entire music fraternity. I am in a lot of pain as I still can't believe that Rashid Khan is no more."
The musician's health had deteriorated after a cerebral attack last month, leading him to receive treatment initially at Tata Memorial Cancer Hospital. Later on, he chose to continue his treatment exclusively in Kolkata. Despite an initial positive response to treatment, Khan's health eventually took a tragic turn, marking the end of a remarkable musical journey.
Born in Badayun, Uttar Pradesh, Ustad Rashid Khan, also the nephew of Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan, began his musical journey under the guidance of his maternal grand-uncle, Ustad Nissar Hussain Khan (1909–1993). This early training laid the foundation for Rashid Khan's distinguished career as a renowned music maestro.
