Home minister Amit Shah telephoned West Bengal governor CV Ananda Bose as well as state BJP president Sukanta Majumdar over the clashes that broke out during a Ram Navami procession in Howrah, even as I&B minister Anurag Thakur condemned the incident and lambasted the Bengal government for its being a “mute spectator”. Shah, sources said, sought information from the two on the circumstances leading to violence and the action initiated to curb it, besides seeking an update on the current law and-order situation. The home minister was keen to know the exact situation on the ground, given that no formal update had come from the Bengal government until he spoke to Bose.
