Above-normal temps likely in April-June across country: IMD

The majority of northwest India may not experience a heatwave in April, at least not until the middle of the month. However, the IMD's monthly outlook for the summer season predicted that conditions in eastern, central, and western parts of (coastal areas) Gujarat and Maharashtra will be challenging because these regions will experience "above normal" temperatures and more days with heatwaves this month.

Overall, during the April-June hot weather season, most of the country are expected to experience “above-normal” day temperatures, from mid-April. South Peninsular India and parts of northwest India will, however, experience where normal to below normal temperatures are likely. “Above-normal heatwave days are likely over many parts of Bihar, Jharkhand, east Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, north Chhattisgarh, western parts of Maharashtra, Gujarat and some parts of west Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana during April,” said IMD director general M Mohapatra.

The likelihood of rain in April in the entire nation is most likely to be normal (88-112% of the long-term average). While below-average rainfall is probable throughout east and northeast India and some locations along the west coast of India, normal to above-normal rainfall is anticipated over the majority of the northwest, central, and peninsular regions of India, according to the IMD.

The periods of western disturbances that may cause occasional rain even until April 4 are to blame for the normal to above average rainfall in northwest India, including Delhi-NCR. However, the met department recommended farmers in Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Jharkhand to begin harvesting mature crops "during clear weather".
