In a first for the Indian pharmaceutical sector, pharma giant Granules India Ltd. has partnered strategically with the Greenko Group, which is backed by GIC Holdings Pte Ltd, the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, and Japan's ORIX Corp. The two companies will work together on green molecule solutions and their expanded applications in pharmaceuticals to strengthen their position in sustainability and circular economy initiatives.
According to a regulatory filing by Granules, the two companies would collaborate to initially create and promote integrated green pharmaceutical zones (GPZ) in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh. To produce key starting materials (KSMs), intermediates, active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), and fermentation-based products on a big scale, the company will construct a greenfield plant based on sustainability principles. Spread across 100 acre, the factory will be commissioned in a phased manner. The estimated cost of the project is Rs 2,000 crore, spread over five years.
