Football prodigy Pele dies at 82

Pele, the legendary Brazilian footballer who climbed from barefoot squalor to become one of the most famous and famous athletes in contemporary history, passed away at the age of 82 in Sao Paulo. After a tumour was discovered on his colon, he spent the previous few months going in and out of the hospital.

Pele, whose given name was Edson Arantes do Nascimento, scored a world record 1,281 goals, and is the only player ever to win the World Cup three times.

He played his last professional game in 1977 but continued to be sought after by brands. He went from having little formal education to becoming polyglot. He also worked for UNICEF and has a law in Brazil named after him.

According to data compiled by FIFA's website, Pele scored 1,281 goals in 1,366 games, or 0.94 goals per game. He scored 757 goals in 812 games, including some friendlies and contests he played in as part of his military obligations. Nevertheless, he was equally as active in competitive tournaments.

He had suffered from a series of health issues in recent years, including hip surgery that left him with recurring pain and trouble walking unaided. He reduced his public appearances, but remained active on social media.
