Karnataka home minister G Parameshwara has directed prison officials to review cases filed against several people for their alleged involvement in violence in Bengaluru, Shivamogga, Hubballi and elsewhere in the state. Parameshwara, in a note to the principal secretary of prisons, civil defence, and auxiliary services (PCAS), stated: “It has been requested that innocent youths and students have been arrested under false cases in connection with protests and riots in Bengaluru’s DJ Halli and KG Halli, Shivamogga, Hubballi, and other places, and to withdraw cases in accordance with rules after review. It is instructed to take necessary action in this regard after review.” Later, Parameshwara reiterated that if it is legally possible, cases would be withdrawn. Chief minister Siddaramaiah said the issue will be discussed at the government level.
