Prior to Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the beginning of the "Meri Mati Mera Desh" campaign, which aims to recognise the nation's courageous martyrs by having unique inscriptions placed in panchayats in their honour.
The Prime Minister said in his monthly radio address, "Mann Ki Baat," that the campaign will include the "Amrit Kalash Yatra," in which 7,500 pots containing soil from all over the nation will be transported to the capital together with seedlings. “Amrit Vatika will be built near the National War Memorial by fusing the soil and saplings that will arrive in 7,500 urns. This 'Amrit Vatika' will become a grand symbol of 'Ek Bharat Shresth Bharat',” he said. Under the ongoing Amrit Mohatsav to mark the 75th anniversary of independence, over 200,000 programmes have been organised. 'Meri Mati Mera Desh' will recall the memory of those brave men and women who laid down their lives for the country, the PM said.
“With these efforts, we will realise our duties, we will realise the innumerable sacrifices made for the freedom of the country, we will realise the value of freedom. Hence, every person in the country must join in these efforts,” he added.
He mentioned the several sites where people suffered from the floods, landslides, and other natural disasters that struck various parts of the nation during the monsoon season. He claimed that amid the natural disasters, individuals also highlighted the value of teamwork. According to Modi, it is great to observe how creative water conservation initiatives are being made everywhere. He used the record-breaking planting of 30 billion seedlings in a single day in Uttar Pradesh as an illustration of popular involvement and knowledge. Over 60,000 'Amrit Sarovars' built during the ‘Azaadi ka Amrit Mahotsav' were helping in water conservation during the rainy season, he said, adding that over 50,000 more ponds were being built.
