Amritsar: Two gangsters arrested in connection with singer Sidhu Moose Wala’s murder last year were beaten to death during a clash at Goindwal jail in Punjab’s Tarn Taran district on Sunday. Other than the slain duo of Mandeep Singh, alias Toofan, and Manmohan Singh, alias Mohna, a third suspect in the case, Keshav, was critically injured and rushed to an Amritsar hospital, according to Tarn Taran SSP Gurmeet Singh Chohan. The jail fight came days after self-styled Sikh preacher Amritpal Singh laid siege to Amritsar’s Ajnala police station along with hundreds of weapon-wielding supporters who clashed with police for hours, leaving many cops injured.
Preliminary investigations indicated that prison clash occurred between groups owing allegiance to gangsters Lawrence Bishnoi and Jaggu Bhagwanpuria, SSP Chohan said.
During the jail fight, sources said sharp-edged weapons, rods and even utensils were used. All three were lodged in an isolated zone of the high-security prison and had been allowed out of their cells for a while when the clash occurred, the SSP said. Sources said the inmates first faced off over some issue and the situation soon took an ugly turn.
