Pakistan has reported the death of one of India's most wanted terrorists - Hizbul Mujahideen commander Bashir Ahmad Peer alias Imtiyaz Alam outside a shop in Rawalpindi. Peer was designated as a terrorist by India in October last year for his role in sending terrorists and providing logistic support for infiltration in Jammu and Kashmir.

Peer was a hard-core terrorist commander who relocated his base to Pakistan 20 years ago. Peer was a resident of Babapora, Aloosa village in Kupwara region of Jammu & Kashmir. He was considered to be a close confidant of Hizbul Chief Syed Salahuddin.

According to Pakistani media reports, motorcycle-borne gunmen fired at Peer from point- blank. He was standing outside a shop in Rawalpindi when he was targeted.

According to sources, Peer, the Hizbul leader who launched the organisation in Pakistan, was a significant player in enlisting infiltrators and delivering weapons and ammunition into Kashmir. While designating him as a terrorist under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act UAPA, the Centre had also put out Peer's Pakistani Computerized National Identity Card No. 82203-7942470-9.

Javed Akhtar blames Pak

The perpetrators of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks are still roaming freely in Pakistan, so Pakistanis should not feel offended when India talks about the 2008 carnage, poet and lyricist Javed Akhtar said at a festival organised in memory of poet Faiz Ahmed Faiz in Lahore.

In viral video, he is seen making these comments in response to an audience member who told him to take with him a message of peace and tell Indians that Pakistan is “a positive, friendly and loving country.” “We should not blame each other. It will solve nothing. The atmosphere is tense, that should be doused,” the 78-year-old lyricist said.
