The India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEEC), which India proposed during the G20 Summit, was praised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who asserted that it would serve as the cornerstone of global trade for the foreseeable future. The PM claimed that the corridor's foundation on Indian soil would go down in history.

Modi claimed that two recent events -the success of Chandrayaan-3 and the splendid hosting of the G20 - had multiplied the happiness of every Indian in his monthly radio speech, "Mann ki Baat." By bringing the African Union into the G20 as a full member, India, according to him, had demonstrated its leadership prowess.

On the massive IMEEC, the PM said, “You must be aware that during the time when India was very prosperous, the Silk Route was a part of discourse in our country and in the world. This Silk Route was a major medium of business and trade. Now in modern times, India has suggested another economic corridor in the G20. This is the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor. This corridor is going to become the basis of world trade for hundreds of years to come, and history will always remember that this corridor was initiated on Indian soil.”

PM Modi said India had turned the summit into “people’s G20” as a large number of people became part of the year-long programmes across the country. He said there would be a G20 University Connect Programme on September 26 and he would participate in it. He urged college students to participate in it while mentioning that many prestigious institutions like IITs, NITs and medical colleges would also participate.
