The International exposition-cum-Convention Centre (IECC) complex at Pragati Maidan will be officially opened by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on July 26 (Wednesday). According to the PMO, it would rank among the top exposition and convention complexes in the world.

According to the PMO, the facility was created as a national project at a cost of roughly £270 million and has a campus area of about 123 acres. It was built after the old and out-of-date buildings in Pragati Maidan were renovated.

The IECC complex has been developed as India's largest MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) destination. In terms of the covered space available for events, the IECC Complex finds its place among the top exhibition and convention complexes in the world, it said.

The new facility is in accordance with Modi's objective of having a top-notch infrastructure for hosting meetings, according to the statement, and includes numerous cutting-edge amenities including the convention center, exhibition halls, and amphitheaters among others. "It is a grand architectural marvel, designed to host large-scale international exhibitions, trade fairs, conventions, conferences, and other prestigious events," the PMO said.

Its majestic multi-purpose hall and plenary hall have a combined capacity of 7,000 people, which is larger than the seating capacity of the famous Sydney Opera House in Australia. The building's shape is derived from a conch shell, and its various walls and facades feature a variety of traditional art and cultural elements, such as "Surya Shakti," which highlights the nation's efforts to harness solar energy, "Zero to ISRO," which celebrates its achievements in space, and "Pancha Mahabhuta," which represents the elements that make up the universal foundation: sky, air, fire, water, earth and among others.
