Nine killed as speeding car ploughs into Ahmedabad crowd

At least nine people were killed and 13 injured in one of the worst traffic accidents on the Iskcon flyover in Ahmedabad last week. Tathya Patel, a 19-year-old motorist in a fast automobile, ploughed trough the crowd that had gathered there ironically to investigate an accident which had happened a few hours earlier.

Two police officers and home guard jawan who were investigating the earlier collision in which a youngster had smashed his Thar SUV into a dumper, were among those killed. The tragedy was captured by video footage, revealing the horrific impact of the Jaguar car colliding with the crowd, and flinging the bodies of young victims across a 200m stretch. The road turned into a tragic scene of devastation, stained with blood, and littered with the belongings of the deceased and injured victims.

Six including car driver, his female friends held

Three Botad friends who were just hired as government school teachers and two who were enrolled in college in Ahmedabad were among the deceased. The government announced that acting city police commissioner Premveer Singh will monitor the investigation to be conducted by a team consisting of additional CP (traffic), three DCPs, and seven PIs. The son and father of the Jaguar have been booked along with his three girl frieds.
