Vijayapura: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and home minister Amit Shah held massive roadshows in poll-bound Karnataka. Rahul held the show in Vijayapura on Sunday waving at a large, enthusiastic crowd that had lined up on both sides of the route. Standing on top of a specially designed vehicle, Rahul constantly waved at the people gathered in the streets and on nearby buildings, many of whom were seen chanting 'Rahul, Rahul' slogans and shouting loud cheers.
He began the road show after garlanding the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. People holding Congress flags moved along as the vehicle carrying Rahul and other Congress leaders passed through the streets from Shivaji Circle and Kanakadasa Circle, amid the sound of drum beats.
Karnataka Congress campaign committee chief M B Patil and several other party leaders and workers accompanied Rahul on the road show. Rahul began his two-day visit to Karnataka from Kudala Sangama, where he offered obeisance to 12th-century poet and social reformer Basaveshwara on his birth anniversary, celebrated as Basava Jayanti.
Amit Shah attends several rallies
Home Minister Amit Shah took part in several elections rallies and roadshows in the state on Monday. Shah offered prayers to Chamundeshwari at Chamundi Hills in Mysuru before his roadshow in Chamarajanagar. The union Home minister campaigned for Gundlupet party candidate CS Niranjan Kumar.
The Union Home Minister also held a roadshow and campaigned in Sakleshpura for Preetham J Gowda, party candidate from Hassan. Shah said Preetham Gowda was fighting family politics in Hassan.
Shah dismissed the Congress’s allegations of corruption against the Bommai government “They can talk about it and should go to court if they have concrete evidence. Neither there is any probe nor there is any case. How will people believe in such baseless allegations?” Shah asked.
Shah slammed the Congress as being casteist. “The Congress has a casteist nature, BJP is taking every sect along with it. We will form the government in Karnataka with an absolute majority,” the union home minister said.
