Ensure tax used for nation, not any party: PM Modi tells bureaucrats

Prime Minister Narendra Modi encouraged bureaucrats to make the national interest the only factor considered while making decisions. He referred to civil officials as "karmayogi saathi" and said they needed to conduct analysis before determining if taxpayer money was being used to help the country or a certain party.

Speaking at the 16th Civil Services Day, Modi stated that both federal and state civil workers must determine whether a ruling party is changing laws only to open up new channels for black money.

Pointing out that every party has its own ideology, the PM said bureaucrats should make decisions based on certain questions: “Is the ruling political party using taxpayers' money for its own benefit or for the benefit of the country? Is it looting the government exchequer for self-expansion and creating its own vote bank or utilising the money for making everyone’s life easier? Is it advertising itself with the government money? Is it appointing its own party workers in various organisations or creating a transparent process for recruitment?”

Invoking Sardar Patel's assertion that bureaucracy serves as India's steel framework, he said it is time to meet citizens' expectations, stop public money from being wasted, and stop young people's hopes from being dashed.

In addition, Modi criticised previous administrations while emphasising the fact that even the best initiatives are ineffective without last-mile delivery. According to him, the minority affairs ministry gave scholarships to roughly 30,00,000 fictitious young people, and thousands of phoney accounts were made under the rural job guarantee plan (MGNREGA) to transfer payments from unemployed employees.
