Apple CEO Tim Cook met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his ministerial colleagues in the national capital and said that his company is committed to growing and investing across India. He visited Delhi to inaugurate the a second Apple store.
He emphasised the company's initiatives for expanding operations, increasing its manufacturing setup, and creating jobs, promising to double the workforce to 200,000 employees over the following few years, some directly and primarily through contract manufacturers.
"Thank you Prime Minister @narendramodi for the warm welcome. We share your vision of the positive impact technology can make on India’s future - from education and developers to manufacturing and the environment, we’re committed to growing and investing across the country," Cook tweeted after his meeting with PM Modi.
Responding to Cook's tweet, PM Modi said it was an absolute delight to meet the CEO of Apple and exchange views on diverse topics and highlight the tech-powered transformations taking place in India.
India and its GDP are set for an 'extraordinary run', Tim Cook told the media in an interview, with the country having the potential to emerge as 'one of Apple’s largest markets'. "A country’s success comes down to people and culture more than anything else. And the people and culture of India have an India's people & culture set for an extraordinary journey ahead.”
