Indian-origin Neal Mohan is new CEO of YouTube

Neal Mohan, an Indian-American is a longtime Google and YouTube executive. Mohan has joined a select group of Indian-born IT executives, including Sundar Pichai of Alphabet, Satya Nadella of Microsoft, Arvind Krishna of IBM, and Shantanu Narayen of Adobe.

Mohan will succeed Susan Wojcicki, who served as CEO of YouTube for almost 25 years and is leaving the parent company Alphabet Inc. “When I joined YouTube nine years ago, one of my first priorities was bringing in an incredible leadership team. Neal Mohan was one of those leaders, and he’ll be the SVP and new head of YouTube,” said Wojcicki in a letter. Since 2015, Neal Mohan has held the position of chief product officer at YouTube. Before that, he worked at Google, the online search giant, which he joined in 2008.

Mohan oversaw the creation of advertising products for YouTube, Google Display Network, AdSense, AdMob, and DoubleClick ad tech solutions while overseeing Google's display and video advertising business from 2008 to 2015. He developed advertising strategies for media partners and marketers at this time, which fueled the growth of the online media, consumer internet, and mobile app ecosystems.

Mohan “became YouTube’s Chief Product Officer in 2015. Since then, he has set up a top-notch product and UX team, played pivotal roles in the launch of some of our biggest products … and has led our Trust and Safety team, ensuring that YouTube lives up to its responsibility as a global platform,” stated Wojcicki.
