In the next 24 months, other domestic carriers, lead by IndiGo, are anticipated to place orders for a total of 1,000 to 1,200 aircraft, according to the Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation (CAPA), making Air India's 470 aircraft order a significant one for the expansion of the Indian aviation industry. “India is, perhaps, on the cusp of a long-awaited and historic change. . . it may finally be set to take its place as the global aviation market of the 21st century,” the report said.
In the next two years, almost every Indian airline is projected to place more aircraft orders for fleet replacement and growth, although IndiGo is anticipated to place the next sizable order.
“IndiGo has been planning to place a significant order of around 300 aircraft prior to Covid, which was deferred due to the pandemic. This is now likely to proceed and could be even larger than previously envisaged, increasing to around 500 aircraft now,” said the recently released CAPA report titled ‘India: The next growth engine of global aviation’.
Presently, 700 aircraft are in operation across all Indian ships. Some of the multinational behemoths run far larger fleets on their own; American Airlines, for example, runs a fleet of 935 aircraft because to these large contracts, India's aircraft production is expected to sharply increase during the next ten years. So, it is crucial for India to get ready for the anticipated growth pace.
