Kolkata: West Bengal Governor C V Ananda Bose assured BJP state president Sukanta Majumdar that the upcoming panchayat elections in the state will be free and fair. The governor declared during a meeting at Raj Bhavan that there would be "zero tolerance" for corruption and that no one in the state would be permitted to impose their own laws.
“The governor ensures that he is accessible to the common man. As far as corruption is concerned, there will be a zero-tolerance policy. Nobody will be allowed to take the law into their own hands.
"Law and order shall be meticulously upheld, and effective and aggressive intervention will be made where necessary. In a statement released by the Raj Bhavan, it was said that "violence has no place in elections and that the next panchayat elections will guarantee free and fair elections."
Majumdar called on Bose on a prior appointment and discussed the state of affairs in West Bengal. The BJP leader said that "corruption was on the rise, and the law and order situation has deteriorated" in the state during the almost two-hour meeting.
Majumdar also informed the governor that the state government “has been found wanting in the implementation of the MGNREGS, PMAY (G) and PMGSY and there are glaring irregularities and blatant corruption all around".
Notably, the state administration had recently written to the federal government asking the quick disbursement of money under the PM Awas Yojana (PMAY), highlighting the fact that the state would miss its deadline of March 31 for constructing 11,00,000 homes if there was any further delay.
