In his first direct attack on the opposition since the controversy started with DMK politician Udhayanidhi Stalin's call for the "eradication of Sanatan Dharma," PM Modi said that the INDIA bloc is making an "attempt to destroy Sanatan Dharma." The PM had earlier instructed the council of ministers to respond to Udhayanidhi's comments in an "appropriate manner."

The prime minister pleaded with Indians to stop the bloc's "hidden agenda of attacking Sanatan Dharma and driving the nation into a thousand years of slavery." A member of the INDIA alliance is DMK.

Addressing a gathering after laying the foundation stone of a £5 billion petrochemicals complex in poll-bound MP’s Bina, Modi said: “The ghamandia alliance met in Mumbai recently. They neither have any policy nor issue nor a leader. They have a hidden agenda…” He added, “While India is occupying the centre stage in uniting the world, playing the role of ‘vishwa mitra’, the INDIA alliance is trying to divide the country and society by attacking Sanatan values, culture and traditions, which have kept India united for thousands of years.”

In MP, where polls are due in Nov, Modi said a state once counted among the most backward was now under a BJP government “going to scale newer heights”.
