BJP won all 17 of the state's mayoral seats in urban civic elections, surpassing their record of 14 of the 16 positions in 2017.

UP CM Yogi Adityanath, who addressed 50 rallies in 12 days ahead of the polls said, “This is BJP’s historic victory because of its committed workers and party functionaries.” A split in Muslim votes among SP, BSP and AIMIM played a pivotal role in BJP’s victory in several segments, especially in western UP.

The BJP also significantly increased its vote totals in 544 nagar panchayat (NP) seats and 199 nagar palika parishad (NPP) seats. The latest reports indicated that the BJP was on track to defeat the NPP by more than 95 seats, while SP and BSP were leading in 30 and 22 seats, respectively. The BJP won/led in 203 seats in the elections for nagar panchayat chairmanships, SP took 83 seats, while BSP registered a win/lead in 40.

BJP’s vote share saw a sharp rise in all the 17 seats. Its candidates bagged more than 45% votes on 13 seats, while four of them got the support of more than 50% voters.

In 2017, BSP had won Aligarh and Meerut mayoral seats.
