Seven people lost their lives and nearly 400 roads were blocked in Himachal Pradesh as a result of heavy rain. Authorities issued a red alert for parts of Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, and Shimla as a result of the nonstop rain. The warning for a moderate-to-high danger of flash flooding has been expanded to include the districts of Shimla, Sirmaur, Kangra, Chamba, Mandi, Hamirpur, Solan, Bilaspur, and Kullu. Mandi, Shimla, Solan, and Kullu were among the hardest-hit districts, with Bilaspur receiving the highest rain -180 mm - in a 24-hour period.

Tragedy struck with two deaths in Shimla and five in Mandi. Flash floods devastated the cantonment town of Subathu in Solan, leading to considerable destruction. The monsoon this year brought Himachal significant flooding and landslides, taking a devastating toll. Over 80 individuals have already killed this month from rain-related incidents, bringing the total number of fatalities since the monsoon began on June 24 to 238. Forty individuals are still missing, too.

In Shimla, the rain led to the uprooting of large number of deodar trees, while houses were damaged and vehicles crushed under landslides and fallen trees. The city’s roads were blocked throughout the morning. Certain thoroughfares teetered on the edge of collapse. Shimla’s essential utilities faced disruption, with electricity and water supply faltering.
