Armed assailants kill Torrent Pharma executive in Mexico

Ketan Shah, a 38-year-old executive of Ahmedabad-based Torrent Pharmaceuticals Limited, was killed in Mexico City by armed robbers after they stole $10,000 from him. Shah was the finance director at Laboratorios Torrent SA de CV, a subsidiary of Torrent Pharma. The incident occurred on Simon Bolivar Street in Mexico City.

According to sources, Shah showed no signs of life despite the prompt arrival of local emergency personnel. Shah's father, who was also there and was hurt in the incident, is doing well right now.

Shah had been associated with Torrent Pharma for seven years and had been on assignment in Mexico City since May 2019. He leaves behind his wife and two children. Source privy to the development said: “Shah had withdrawn $10,000 from an airport foreign exchange centre and was on his way home when armed assailants followed him on two motorcycles. They fired at Shah’s car seven times, leading to this unfortunate incident.”

Mexican authorities have initiated a probe while Torrent Group officials are working to ensure the safe return of Shah’s family to India. Whike condoling Shah's death, the Indian embassy here said that it was in touch with the law enforcement agencies to apprehend the culprits at the earliest.
