Manish Sisodia was interrogated twice before being taken into custody by the Enforcement Directorate in Tihar Prison as part of its investigation into Delhi's excise policy.

A day before a court was to hear Sisodia's bail request in the case the CBI had filed against him and for which he had been placed in detention, the ED took action. When the AAP leader is brought before the court, the agency plans to ask for custody of him so that he can be questioned further.

Sisodia is “Accused No. 1” in the case, according to the CBI FIR which has been the basis for the ED to register an investigation under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The former deputy CM was earlier arrested by the CBI on February 26.

The CBI questioned Sisodia both before and after they arrested him, but before the ED started interviewing him. In court, the CBI asserted that Sisodia had been evasive and uncooperative during the interrogation. His secretary, other associates and party functionaries have already recorded their statements with both the CBI and the ED. Sources said the ED seeks to question Sisodia in custody as he remains evasive in his answers despite being confronted with the statements of other accused in the case that could be crucial in determining the trail of “proceeds of crime”.
