The 246-km Sohna-Dausa-Lalsot stretch of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, which would reduce the distance between Delhi and Jaipur's travel time from five to six hours to roughly three and a half to four hours, was opened by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The public will have access to the stretch.
Modi referred to the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway as the "modern road to growth" and described it as a "beautiful picture" of a developing India. "Now the trip from Delhi to Jaipur, which used to take 5 to 6 hours, will be completed in half the time. Consider the amount of time that this project will save. People who used to routinely travel or work in Delhi can now return in the evening. "Goods-moving trucks and tempos won't have to drive for the entire day," he claimed.
The travel time between the national capital and the Pink City will further reduce by half an hour by December 2024 when the two under-construction links - DND Flyway (Delhi) to Sohna and Bandikui to Jaipur Ring Road - will be completed.
Gadkari reiterates PM’s plan for world-class infra
Speaking at the event, union road transport and highway minister Nitin Gadkari said he was confident of people reaching Jaipur from Delhi in two hours when the two new links from DND and Bandikui become operational.
According to the current law, private cars are only permitted to travel on motorways at a top speed of 120 kph. The expressway's design has improved, and it now has a higher potential top speed. Following a thorough investigation by scientists, we will decide. The journey duration will likely be shortened to two hours, in my opinion," he said. The minister reiterated the PM’s plan of creating world class infrastructure in India after assuming office in 2014.
