Vellore: Launching the BJP’s campaign in Tamil Nadu almost a year ahead of the 2024 LS elections, Union home minister Amit Shah appealed for votes and victory for NDA in more than 25 of the 39 seats in the state and asserted that a government under the leadership of Narendra Modi would be formed again at the Centre.
“I have come to appeal to all of you to elect BJP and its allies in more than 25 seats in Tamil Nadu,” said Shah while addressing a public rally in Pallikonda in Vellore district as part of the countrywide campaign to highlight the achievements of the Modi government in nine years.
Recalling the inaugural event of the new Parliament building, Shah said, “Narendra Modi reinstalled the Sengol which is emblematic of the Chola empire.” Shah said 25 NDA MPs should be elected from Tamil Nadu as “a mark of gratitude” for installing the Sengol in the new Parliament building.
New Justice Party founder A C Shanmugam, who contested on a BJP ticket in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, presented a silver sceptre (Sengol) to Shah. The home minister said the Modi government has taken numerous initiatives to promote the Tamil language, culture and history. “Modi Ji makes it a point to mention the greatness of Tamil literature, Tamil saints and scholars and culture with immense pride in whichever country he visits.”
